Sunday Night at the Lyric Theatre
The performance itself wasn't so bad
once the blue velvet curtain stopped tearing
far enough to collapse onto the goldfish bowl
and break, causing the animals to flip and flop
all over the stage.
Pinpricks of light forming the Milky Way
while the cymbals clashed and piano banged upon
by the maestro with disheveled hair and horn-rimmed glasses
had a picture of Stokowski on top near a stein of authentic German beer.
That warmth covering me came from the magician's cloak
on stage a grin reminiscent of the Cheshire Cat
why regard a friend from a century ago
magnificent adrenaline rushed up and down the stairs
flying Phantom of the Opera
but invisible sitting on top of the unprepossessed
crucible carrying nothing but
two flames dancing as bodies on stage.

Poem of the Week
Where Did Dancer Go?
Deer in your headlights
dancing to the Bee Gees
no one in the woods sees
not even the trees
hepcat
one of Santa's missing drivers.

Poem of the week
Atesh-e Parandegan
Knave black ibis
no self deprecation
of the graceful birds
writing chrysology
upon the ancient
tablet at Rashad
laughing and chatting
render to a silver spun
cypress from days of
Shah Koroush-e Bozorg
enter the presence of fire
sacred fire
the active force of God's eye.

Thank you to all submitters of poetry to Exercise Bowler
First of all I would like to give everyone who submitted to and had their poetry in Exercise Bowler a huge thank you. It has already been four years since I had my first poem published in Falling Star which has been very exciting for me. Having a lack of formal poetry training certainly has not kept my work from being published by other journals though it is always evolving as life does. Starting Exercise Bowler is also my way giving back to the poetry community and allowing other poets to increase their resumes as well. Thank you everyone for your continued support!

Poem of the Week
Your Secrets Are Yours
Your secrets are yours
buried in the most inconspicuous places
that only the oak and cypress trees see every day
as you walk down that narrow driveway
to the mailbox
paying your bills
and checking to see if the geraniums need watering.
Right underneath eggs and bread on the grocery list
you write in purple ink
a secret fantasy
nobody knows about but you
sunk in a china teacup
with 24 K gold edging
and violets hand painted on the front.
A smile from the edge of the universe
brings over the waves of serenity
an invisible cloak with magical letter inscribed
permit you to navigate the rocky path of life
seeing only what you want others to see
seeing only pink skies laced with mandarin orange
seeing only hazel eyes gazing up from the pillow
waiting for that elusive last breath
from your lustrous teeth.

Poem of the Week
Dancing Life Away
A mouse dances the tango
on top of the grandfather clock
twirling in ballet slippers
while the television set blares away
Maury Povitch
things the mouse does not hear
having too much of a good time
watching that movie about gladiators
watching that rhythm and blues concert live from San Francisco
doing anything but
allowing the outer directs turn into the outer limits.

Poem of the Week
Your Good Things In Life: Yes
Yes
your mortgage has been burned
Yes
that last college tuition payment has been paid off
Yes
the new wine in the oak barrel is getting richer
a hint of peach with cherry aroma
is drawn in with that small table top fan
Yes
the first residual check
has its rainbow
the amount approved by the tuxedo cat
right before
the Gund bear merrily deposits it into
your bank account
Yes
a Cheshire cat grin in the
photo on the nightstand
beckons
“Yes”
to your good things in life.

When Daddy Comes Around open mic Cafe in Chicago
I received a surprise email from Janet Kuypers, the editor of Children Churches and Daddies literary magazine with the wonderful news that she read my poem titled "When Daddy Comes Around" at an open mic night at the Cafe in Chicago on July 20, 2010. The event was video taped and posted to Youtube by Janet. Needless to say, this is a very thrilling experience for me, as she chose my poem to help promote her literary magazine. You can view the video below:

Poem of the Week
One Breath
One breath
sank into the dungeon's plumbing
exhaling a sunstroke
a talent relinquished
for nobody's sake
slowly groping
from memory
hiding a gemstone
not the Hope diamond
or a dollar store treasure
vanilla scented candle
perched over a
smiling gargoyle
waiting to dance with
the princess who walks by.

Poem of the Week
Easter in Florida
A sandhill crane with two babies sits in the middle of a meridian
drawing a crowd from drivers passing by the farms.
Fish swim near the surface of the lake
heads bobbing up and down in perfect unison
to the beat of a classic song by Mozart
softly playing in the background.
Two ibises sway to a much smoother tune
Ambrosia, singing to each other
how being the biggest part of me
brings a sunrise in your eyes
giving me a joy
that lasts throughout the year
not just at Easter.

Hafiz: The Scent of Light

Poem of the Week
Down south in the wintertime
a hint of spring lingers through the dark soil
shades of pink and white forming happy faces on the impatiens
whispering to each other by the lake when the warmer weather
would arrive and introduce new neighbors to them.
Soon tiny bulbs were planted nearby
tulips, crocuses, and hyacinths
not forgetting the bright yellow daffodils
excited to make new friends and talk about
their new lakeside home.
