Poem of the Week

Bicycle Spokes

Ten sharp bicycle spokes gripped in his hand
a bundle ready to drop into the dartboard of life on the ground
at the northern axis of the planet
polar bears ran to avoid getting struck

One spoke pierced hunger
One spoke pierced fear
One spoke pierced loneliness

Two spoked penetrated invasion of privacy
and destruction

The other five spokes penetrated the ills of war,
disease, deceit, pain, and betrayal.

Poem of the Week

It Is True

It is true

what the mirror says
every morning when you wake up

It is true
what your best friend said about that
old French movie with Olga Valery

shining on siren little noted
perhaps not noted enough

but it is desirable for some people to live
to a ripe old age
so long as your paradise has been created by you

even when knocks on the door go unanswered
not so much as a glimpse of your lover is seen
another time and place no longer static

but fused into eternity by the blood
that once swam over my weary heart
bringing it back to life.
