When Armadillos and Ibises Lounge....
Thunder in the distance
over the dense swamps and palm trees
a family of armadillos huddles together
in a nest overlooking
the rapids.
Last year one armadillo fell out onto a rock below
got carried downstream
and landed on a beach
when his family finally found him
he was sitting under an umbrella
wearing sunglasses and listening to
Elvis Presley on the radio
while an alligator swam in the lake
and a flock of white ibises
roasted marshmallows over an open campfire.

Poem of the Week
Bicycle Spokes
Ten sharp bicycle spokes gripped in his hand
a bundle ready to drop into the dartboard of life on the ground
at the northern axis of the planet
polar bears ran to avoid getting struck
One spoke pierced hunger
One spoke pierced fear
One spoke pierced loneliness
Two spoked penetrated invasion of privacy
and destruction
The other five spokes penetrated the ills of war,
disease, deceit, pain, and betrayal.
