Poem of the Week

The Beach After Sunset

Deserted beach after sunset
quiet no sounds from the midnight waters
not even mermaids singing from beyond the reefs.

The last time we held hands
seagulls flew over our heads
crying what seemed to be their bedtime song
but was really the loss of a baby gull

a sickly scrawny bird unable to
catch its meal at dawn.

It lay dead among the smooth rocks on the beach
out of its pain
beneath us
as we sat on the cliff
consummated by the salt air
scent of orchids and jasmine.

Poem of the Week

Back-Stitching

Back-stitch ten birthdates

on a different day

not wedding anniversary

or Christmas

running on a winding trail through the

elm, maple and oak trees

a race not through life

as pink bands across the sky

descend

into

the pan of rocks left by a wood sprite.

Poem of the Week

Black Hole of Memory

Tension released
fatigued from breathing
fatigued from living
fatigued from thinking

dog tags donned with blue and purple ribbons in hand
a tiny smile
surrounded by Nirvana
lying upon satin midnight blue

black roses ceiling spectrum
voices below in cold cement
never disappear faint
black hole of memory.
