Poem to appear in Children Churches and Daddies

I would like to thank Janet Kuypers for selecting my poem titled "When Daddy Comes Around" for publication in the July 2010 issue of Children Churches and Daddies. I have managed to lose track of how many times I have been published in this fantastic left-of-center literary publication. Thank you to all my supporters!

Poem of the Week

Easter in Florida

A sandhill crane with two babies sits in the middle of a meridian
drawing a crowd from drivers passing by the farms.

Fish swim near the surface of the lake
heads bobbing up and down in perfect unison
to the beat of a classic song by Mozart
softly playing in the background.

Two ibises sway to a much smoother tune
Ambrosia, singing to each other
how being the biggest part of me
brings a sunrise in your eyes
giving me a joy
that lasts throughout the year
not just at Easter.

Hafiz: The Scent of Light

Having been a fan of Hafiz for a long time now, this book looks like a really great read for those peaceful moments when you want to get in touch with your inner divinity. Rumi may still remain the first Sufi poet that comes up in Sufi conversations, but Hafiz is closing in on him with popularity. I still read "The Gift" from time to time. "The Scent of Light" will no doubt become one of the best sellers for 2010 for those who are interested in following the Sufi path.

Poem of the Week

Winter in February

Down south in the wintertime
a hint of spring lingers through the dark soil
shades of pink and white forming happy faces on the impatiens
whispering to each other by the lake when the warmer weather
would arrive and introduce new neighbors to them.

Soon tiny bulbs were planted nearby
tulips, crocuses, and hyacinths
not forgetting the bright yellow daffodils
excited to make new friends and talk about
their new lakeside home.
